About this event

Join the excavations taking place at Rendlesham this summer, where we will be investigating the internationally-important Anglo-Saxon settlement.

Suitable for ages 12+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a paying adult)

This is the first season of excavations organised by Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service, as part of the Rendlesham Revealed project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

How to Book

Booking is essential as spaces are limited. Please note the site is on private land with no public access.

Book your place now using the “Tickets” button and select the date(s) and number of tickets you want to book. There is a small charge of £5 (+booking fee) to attend, this contribution will help towards the cost of training.

Refund Policy: No refunds unless the event is cancelled by the organiser.

Once booked, you will receive further information about the activity, including where to park and what to bring.

What is involved?

You will be with the professional archaeologists in the trenches, receiving hands-on training and experiencing real-time discoveries.

Activities on-site each day will vary depending on what archaeology is found, but you can expect to get involved in things like digging, trowelling, sieving soil, recording, washing and processing finds.

No experience necessary as training will be given by Cotswold Archaeology (Suffolk).

Be prepared for physical work which requires some kneeling and bending and we will be outside in a field for the entire day whatever the weather. The site is on uneven terrain with sandy soil.

Hours on site will be approx. 9am-4.30pm

Facilities:

Welfare cabins with an inside break area and portaloos. Bring your own food and drink.

Parking will be available nearby
